Chuck Lorre's new CBS comedy United States of Al is moving to a new time slot on Thursday nights.

“United States of Al” clearly wants to do right by Al, and all the real Als in Afghanistan who inspired him — but doing that requires way more than mere inclusion.

Despite its good intentions, CBS' "United States of Al" makes its Afghan character a bad stereotype overshadowed by his white co-stars.

Yet it’s possible to come away thinking “United States of Al” has its heart in the right place, and still conclude, strictly in TV terms, that it simply isn’t very good.
